About PMC
Pakistan Montessori Council (PMC) serves as a Montessori consortium under which individuals and companies interested in Montessori training, Montessori schooling, and other Montessori-related activities mutually work for its promotion in Pakistan.
Note: It is important to mention that the word “COUNCIL” in Pakistan Montessori Council does not refer to its commonly assumed meaning in Pakistan i.e. “Regulatory Authority” but to its literal origins where it refers to a group of equals who sit together to seek solutions to problems or to pursue the same cause. PMC is a private venture and is not to be confused with a government body.
Pakistan Montessori Council (PMC) is sponsored and managed by the following companies, which are also referred to as PMC’s Panel of Parent Organisations (PPPO), which include;
Montessori Pakistan (MP), registered under section 32 of the Companies Ordinance, 1984 (XLVII of 1984) with the government of Pakistan, plays the role of the training division. MP has trained more than 100,000 individuals in Montessori since its establishment in 2006. Its experts have developed international standard Montessori training courses in both English and Urdu languages. The course materials consist of highly illustrated training manuals with supplementary listening books (available on CDs and cassettes), training videos, and online learning management systems. The course materials are superior in quality, design, content, and technology integration than developed by any other Montessori institute in the world. This course does not only allow the trainees to have the training at the convenience of their home but also opens sure chances of employment in thousands of Montessori schools worldwide. During the online courses, all the trainees go through practical workshops, in which they acquire hands-on experience with scientific Montessori material and activities. These workshops are conducted throughout the year at a convenient location free of cost for the students. The second role of MP is to open franchised training centers all over Pakistan and abroad.
Pakistan Montessori Concern, also registered under section 32 of the Companies Ordinance, 1984 (XLVII of 1984) with Securities and Exchange Commission, the government of Pakistan, has set up Pakistan’s largest state-of-the-art Montessori material manufacturing factory, and serves primarily as the Montessori school resources mercantile concern. Its mission is to make the purchase of material not just affordable, but through the strict quality control measures employed, it ensures the international quality, durability, and non-toxicity of its products. Another worth mentioning project delegated to this parent organization is PMCKIDS, which is the chain of franchised elite Montessori schools.
Peace Education Foundation (PEF), a non-profit organization registered under section 42 of the Companies Ordinance, 1984 (XLVII of 1984) with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the government of Pakistan, has been delegated the responsibility of providing affiliated school a kick start to Montessori by arranging for initial facilitation. Initially, PEF started providing Montessori material worth Rs. 50,000 to each PMC’s member school for free (which has now been discontinued). More than 200 schools benefited from the program. Now it pays for the training of two teachers from each affiliated school each year for free. It, furthermore, organizes Peace Education Programs in schools, which are inherent in Montessori philosophy.
The other part consists of several hundreds of affiliated entities that benefit from PMC’s programs and help PMC with the needs and requirements for the promotion of Montessori system in Pakistan. They are referred to as the Panel of Affiliated Individuals and Organisations (PAIO) and include affiliated individuals, Montessori schools, and Montessori-related businesses.
PMC’s primary role is to pass on the benefits resulting from the sponsorship, services and research carried out by PPPO to the members of PAIO in the form of free or subsidized training workshops and seminars, Montessori materials, and curriculum resources, and administrative manuals. It is a forum where Montessori-related businesses and individuals can come together and seek solutions to Montessori-related issues and support each other. Thus, PMC is eager to affiliate as many individuals, Montessori schools, and businesses as possible by offering attractive packages and thus lead them to Montessori excellence through regular support and its system of self-accreditation. Its other roles include the delivery of publications, regulation of research, maintenance of online social forums and e-mail groups, etc.
We are not alone. In almost all developed countries Montessori organizations are working in the private sector for the promotion of Montessori system of education as an alternative to conventional schooling. Some of the renowned names include the International Montessori Council, Canadian Council of Montessori Administrators, California Montessori Council, Montessori India, Association Montessori International (AMI), Montessori Accreditation Council for Teacher Education (MACTE).
Montessori system is a wonderful system of education and almost every research conducted on the validity of its results proves it to be better than any other system. Now, due to the efforts of the above-mentioned organizations, Montessori method is becoming more and more popular each year in the countries where they are working. In Pakistan, however, even after 112 years, since Dr. Maria Montessori made her first school, we have not done much in this regard. We needed a forum to spread awareness regarding the importance of the absorbent age (birth to 6 years) and the sensitive periods. Moreover, we needed an organization that encouraged and supported institutions to design and execute convenient and accessible Montessori teachers’ training programs that reach far and beyond every nook and corner of Pakistan. Furthermore, we needed a forum that encouraged the manufacturing of Montessori materials in large and cottage industries. For all the above reasons it became absolutely necessary for us to establish PMC. We have been working very hard since 2006, and are determined to continue with even greater dedication to serve. We, all at PMC, are eager to have your support and cooperation.
